Few organization and cleaning projects feel quite so
fulfilling as a yard sale. You make a major dent in your overstuffed
storage, and you get paid, right? Not if you host it late on a Sunday in
August, according to professional organizer Geralin Thomas. She
offers up a wealth of logistical and conceptual advice on putting together
a successful garage sale, including these timing tips:
- Not every day is right for a yard sale. For example,
don?t schedule your sale on a holiday weekend unless you live in a tourist
town.
- The best months for sales are April, May, June and
September.
- If possible, try to schedule your sale near the 1st or
the 15th of the month because those are paydays for a lot of
shoppers.
- Saturdays are best.
- Earlier in the day is better
than later.
I can vouch for the hints about
holiday weekends and early-risers—by 2PM on a Sunday, anything on
your yard is probably there for good. What led to your own successful yard
sales? Help your fellow would-be merchants in the comments. Photo by wonderjunkie.
